This is a year-long class combining History of Rock & Roll 12 and English 11/12. This course is open to both grade 11 and 12 students, and it will allow students to explore how rock & roll music, which critics said “wouldn’t last,” has not only lasted, but it has changed the world. Students will learn about how the first music meant for teenagers has impacted the world on a cultural, social, and political level. From even before Elvis to the ‘British Invasion,’ to the psychedelic sixties, to hard rock and heavy metal, to grunge, rap, and hip-hop, and all genres in between, rock has always been the music of young people and their desire for freedom of expression. The course will allow students to personalize their learning, focus on project-based assignments, and explore their own musical interests and passions. Students will receive 8 credits (4 for History of Rock and Roll 12 and 4 for either English 11 or 12)
