Literature 12 is a survey course covering the development of British literature, particularly poetry, from the years 1000-1900. Major writers studied include: Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Swift, Pope, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Shelley, Keats, Tennyson, and Browning. English Literature 12 also includes 20th century British authors, as well as English-speaking writers from Canada and the United States. This second group of writers includes: T.S. Elliot, William Butler Yeats, Dylan Thomas and Margaret Atwood. Note: UVic strongly recommends that students entering the following programs at UVic take English Literature 12 in high school: English, History, Political Science, Psychology, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Kinesiology, Leisure Service, and Creative Writing.
