More and more of our lives are heavily connected to the digital world around us. This course is designed to provide a strong understanding of the fundamentals related to using computers in a broad range of settings, as well as provide a basic understanding for various forms of technology that are prevalent in our society.
This course is a great starting point for those who have little to no knowledge of computers and computer science, want to refresh their basic knowledge, or are interested in ensuring they have all the foundational knowledge required for later DMGD courses.
While this course is the only DMGD computer course available to Grade 9 students, it is open to students of all grades to provide a starting point for anyone looking to learn the basics of computer science. All grades cover the same material, and classes generally contain a mixture of students from multiple grades.
Expect to explore:
- Essentials of computer hardware and software through PC building and program exploration.
- Uses of common office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) through exploring real-world topics.
- Proper desktop typing practices and procedures
- The design and functionality of the Internet and how data is transmitted.
- Digital security topics, including passwords, encryption, and digital threats.
- How to safely navigate and engage in digital environments.
